What are some reasons for signing your daughter up for Arcadia Volleyball?
1. Physical Fitness: Starting at the Recreation level allows all kids to participate.
Volleyball is a great way to stay active and healthy.
2. Teamwork and Social Skills: Playing in a team helps develop essential social
skills. Your daughter will learn the importance of teamwork, communication, and
cooperation, which are valuable both on and off the court. One of our goals in
our program is to teach the girls how to be good people overall and not just look
at the win and loss column.
3. Discipline and Time Management: Being part of a league requires commitment
and discipline. Balancing practice, games, and schoolwork can teach valuable
time management skills. While at the recreation level we understand kids have
other things going on in their lives, we do still expect that they want to be on the
court any time they can.
4. Confidence and Self-Esteem: Achieving goals and improving skills in volleyball
can boost self-confidence. The encouragement from teammates and coaches
can also enhance her self-esteem. Watching that first serve go over whether it is
a little leaguer just getting the ball over, or a junior league hitting that first
overhand or jump serve, you can see it in their face as they build more
confidence as the season goes on.
5. Fun and Enjoyment: Most importantly, volleyball is fun! It provides a great way
to make new friends, enjoy competition, and have a good time.
Some Basics you should know.
Registration Timing
We play two seasons a year. Fall Season which typically Starts in August Practice-
Games in September to October and Spring Season, which starts in March
Practice/Play and goes to May. Fall Registration is usually opened June/July through
beginning of August. Any changes made to the league happens at the Fall timing. Age
charts are published on Fall timing for the entire year, meaning what you play in the fall
you are still eligible to play in the Spring. Spring Registration opens early January and
runs through Mid-February for little league and until middle school cuts for Junior
league. This date also drives when play starts for our entire league.
Drafts
Drafts are held for both leagues. We encourage all kids to participate on draft nights. It
gives our coaches the best chance to draft our teams to be as equal as possible. We
always want girls who have never played to get the chance to play with others who may
have a little more experience. This may change as we expand into a true development
league that is on the horizon. This would an expansion to the two league we currently
offer. Draft nights also give us the opportunity to double check jersey sizes and ensure
all necessary paperwork has been uploaded to the system.
Leagues
We currently have two leagues that are divided by age. We have 9 to 12 year olds in a
little league and 12-16 year olds in a Junior league. 12 year olds appear in both
leagues depending on birth month. We are looking to add 8 year olds or 3 rd graders into
the mix, if we do this, we will be reworking the ages for little league and junior league. I
hope to have an answer by July 1 st 2025 on what the leagues for Fall 25 will look like.
There will always be a chart and guidelines that will help you sign your daughter up for
the correct league.
Practices
Currently all our Volleyball practices are held at the Arcadia Gym . Before games start
teams can practice twice a week. We try to run them Monday through Thursday but
lately we have had so many teams we have had to use Friday also. We have a few
time slot options again depending on the number of teams needing to practice on a
particular day. We have what we call an early slot that we tend to let our younger teams
fill and then a later slot for the older girls but with so many little league teams they have
been filling the later slots. Practice days are picked by your coaches and they can work
with each other to move around as needed. Once games start, practice is cut to one a
week. We try to give teams one shared practice time and one practice alone on the
court as much as possible. When we cut to one practice we try to stagger practices to
allow for teams to have alone time on the court.
Volunteers
All parents are expected to volunteer for your team. This league and booster club is ran
by volunteers. If you are interested in coaching please reach out to
Volleyball@arcadiaboosters.com. Even if coaching isn’t your thing, your coach will
need a line judge and score keeper at every game. If we do not have people to fill
these spots, our teams will forfeit.
What does your daughter need to play?
We will provide the girls with jerseys. They will need black bottoms of some type to
wear with them. We have multiple top colors but they all match back to a black bottom.
We do not specify what type of bottom it has to be as each girl just needs to be
comfortable on the court. Good pair of tennis shoes are always needed so they can get
to the balls. We recommend knee pads but they are not a requirement. Our current
jerseys are long sleeved so arm sleeves are also not necessary but you may see some
older girls playing with them on.
A few closing remarks, please make sure you are signing your child up for the correct
booster club. They should go to the club that their elementary school services. If there
are special circumstances you need to reach out before registering your child. The
Arcadia program has grown into something special and I invite you all to come and join
us. If you have any questions, please reach out to Volleyball@arcadiabossters.com
